Salvation Army Commits to New Blackburn Office Building
Salvation Army communications director Major Brad Halse confirmed the group would lease two adjoining office buildings at 91-93 and 95-99 Railway Road, near the Blackburn train station in Melbourne’s east.
The 10-year lease deal for 7128 square metres, which includes 231 car spaces, ends a hunt that started in late 2005.
The buildings will be developed by middleweight developer Accord Property Group. The office will accommodate staff from four locations, including Box Hill, Parkville and Mont Albert.
Major Halse said the decision to move to Blackburn was triggered by an ongoing increase in demand for its welfare services, requiring a commensurate increase in administrative and support services.
The Salvation Army has signed two leases to firstly occupy a 4952 sq m building, built around a heritage facade of an original 1800s building.
A second, 2176 sq m building has been pre-committed by the Salvos and construction will start later this year. The office will achieve an Australian building greenhouse rating of four stars.
"The premises will allow the Salvation Army to consider its current location with its off-site departments in and around the area to provide an overall cost saving in a more modern and energy-efficient building," said CB Richard Ellis associate director Grant Tinker, who brokered the deal.
