RAIA to Develop 17-Level Office at 41 Exhibition Street Headquarters Site, Melbourne

He said the Institute plans to lodge an application with the Melbourne City Council for the Lyons Architects-designed tower, but that the project would also require endorsement by the institute’s national council before proceeding.

The RAIA paid $1.2 million for the 41 Exhibition Street office in 1994 – about three years after the 57-level 101 Collins Street opened its doors, claiming (and some still say maintaining) a position as Melbourne’s most prestigious office.

Several Flinders Lane buildings around 101 Collins Street were sold after the tower was developed, with height limiting covenants on the title imposed by 101’s owner, restricting future development and preserving 101’s views and rents.
