Ringwood Clocktower to be Replaced with a Bus Lane: Victorian Department of Transport Proposal
Ringwood RSL secretary Stan Exon told The Leader newspaper the Clocktower site was “sacred”, and that the proposed new park would force ex-service personnel to walk long distances to Anzac and Remebrance Day services.
In a report to council, Department of Transport director of city development Phil Turner said losing land and trees was not ideal but that the bus terminal “could not function” without the new road.
He suggested working with bus operators to minimise bus operations during official RSL services.
RSL branch president Harry Seymour warned it would be dangerous for members to cross two roads from the clocktower to the RSL in Station Street. “The oldies should not have to put up with this as they fought hard for our freedom.”
Mr Turner said a heritage overlay on the site related “mainly to the clocktower itself”.
