Property Industry Foundation charity day raises in excess of $100,000

A cycling day hosted by the Property Industry Foundation (PIF) raised in excess of $100,000 for charities.

The moneys raised from the Melbourne Corporate Charity Cycling Day will be spent to support at-risk and homeless young people.

It brings the total value of donations PIF has received from its various events with charity partners over six years, to $12.6 million.

Secure Parking and TM Insight were major sponsors of the cycling event.

“We are doing our part to help rebuild young lives with much-needed funds,” Peter Inge OAM, PIF Victorian chairman, said. “Our members’ determination to raise awareness for these young people and help give them a way out of their situation and into a new future is truly motivating”.

“Funds raised from the ride are distributed to beneficiary charities, Chatter Bus, an outreach service, and PIF Housing Program with industry members of PIF constructing these homes,” Mr Inge said.

PIF said that 2018 census data revealed homelessness jumped 14 per cent over the past five years, with 42,000 young people now sleeping rough every night across Australia.

The cycling day was held on Friday, November 16, beginning at RACV Cape Schanck. More than 180 participants from the property industry rode two courses – 55 kilometres or 80 kilometres – along the Mornington Peninsula.

Dutch Tour de France rider Koen de Kort was the PIF event ambassador. Fellow professional cyclists Nathan Elliott and Mark O’Brien rode with Mr de Kort in the event.

PIF Victoria general manager Wendy Brakey said “it is deeply encouraging to see so many riders from the industry raising funds for homeless and at-risk youth”.

“The property industry loves to generously devote their time, energy and funds for the greater good and we are proud to see more and more corporates getting involved each year”.
