New plan for West Melbourne corner

The new owners of the Nightingale Electrics store at 420 Spencer Street have applied for a bigger denser building.

The parcel carried permission for 26 levels behind the facade of the historic 1930s ex-theatre.

That proposal would have risen c83 metres

Now, it could be 33 floors – or 103m – in a project with 368 dwellings, 1139 square metres office and 783 sqm of retail.

Both towers exceed the precinct’s (40m Design and Development Overlay limit.
