Melbourne Central rooftop set to open as The Reunion Island Pool Club
A new and unique hospitality venue – “the first of its kind in Australia” – is set to open on the rooftop of shopping centre Melbourne Central this Friday.
The Reunion Island Pool Club is the latest concept of businessman Jerome Borazio, who is behind the Melbourne-born St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.
With palm trees, ten plunge pools, sauna and spa, the RIPC is available for private parties and licensed to trade drinks until 11pm.
It will include a kiosk serving club sandwiches, pizzas and burgers, a bar and General Store, showcasing wares of fashion partners.
At the top of 271 Little Lonsdale Street, three storeys above street level, the RIPC will also dub as a leisure centre offering yoga and pilates classes, and massages. This component will open from 7am.
The venue is a pop-up store set to close next April.
Mr Borazio occupied a glamping pop-up hotel on the same rooftop for three years until April this year. Called St Jerome’s – The Hotel, he charged upwards of $400 a night for one of 21 luxuriously appointed tents.
St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, established in 2005 around a now-closed bar, St Jerome’s, in Caledonian Lane, in the Melbourne CBD, now tours Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
An indie music event, popular acts such as The Avalanches, Florence and the Machine and Gossip have performed at Laneway Festivals.
