Mandala snaps up hinterland retreat with revamp plan
Mandala Hotels & Resorts has bought a Brisbane hinterland spa and vineyard with plans to convert it to a “world class” retreat.
The 20 hectare Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge, in the Moreton Bay region, cost $7 million off-market.
With the deal the Hobart based group now controls a property portfolio valued at over $250m, specifically, 2000 keys in some 40 properties across 30 countries.
It will launch a new hotel brand via the Clear Mountain property next month.
The asset will be slotted into the Trinity accommodation Regional Hospitality Fund Three which also holds, in Western Australia, the Mantra Bunbury and Mandala Ace Albany, and in New South Wales, Rydges Armidale.
Major makeover, price change planned
At 564 Clear Mountain Road, Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge contains 51 rooms, a restaurant, pool, day spa, conference facilities and vineyard.
Mandala is planning a complete overhaul with the aim of more than doubling the average night rate (presently, between $200-$300) via retreats, both corporate and personal, and more business clients.
It has also appointed a general manager – Geoff Clarke, with experience across the company’s Maldives, Cambodia, Indonesia and Thailand portfolio – who will move back to the state.
“The reimagined property will emerge as a leading destination for weddings, leisure, and tourism, featuring elevated suites, purpose-built reception venues, corporate event facilities, a resort-style pool, and a signature restaurant and bar with sweeping views of the Moreton Bay hinterland,” a spokesperson said.
Clear Mountain is about 35 kilometres north west of Brisbane’s CBD.
