Madonna Pays Between $US33 Million and $US40 Million For Upper East Side Mansion, New York

The recently separated singer is understood to have purchased the four-storey Georgian mansion at 152 East 81st Street, a block from Fifth Avenue and near the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park.

The 13-bedroom home is actually two large terrace homes linked together, reportedly within a basement kitchen. The home includes 14-bathrooms, nine fireplaces and a wine cellar. Madonna reportedly plans a major renovation of the property, which is advertised as having one of the widest street frontages in the area, at about 57 foot.

The home also has a suburban size backyard of about 3,000 square feet.

One of Madonna’s previous homes was the 6342 Mulholland Highway "Castillo Del Lago" 9-bedroom mansion, which was rumoured to have been used by Bugsy Siegel in the 1940s as a gambling house. The 6-bathroom home, on a 7,783 square metre sloping block, was known as Longdons Castle at the time.

Last year it was reported she paid about $7 million for an apartment at 1 West 64th Street, facing Central Park. It is the second apartment in the building Madonna owns.

In the 1990s, Madonna also purchased a 41-year old single-level mansion at 9425 Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills, hidden well behind the main road and behind other houses.
