Lexus buys former News Limited and Cottee’s facility, Blackburn

LEXUS of Blackburn – which run radio advertisements tuning into hundreds of thousands of waking Victorians ahead of 3AW’s popular Rumour File – has itself settled speculation it has made a major property play.

The prestige car dealership is understood to have paid about $12 million for News Limited’s former Leader Newspaper facility at 160 Whitehorse Road, near its existing facility at 146 Whitehorse Road.

Lexus said the car facility now earmarked for the site at the corner of Railway Road, near the Blackburn train station – will highlight the brand’s environmental credentials

Knight Frank director Michael Hede marketed the 8767 square metre holding in February but declined to comment on any part of a deal when contacted by Capital Gain.

News Limited relocated its Leader staff to an adjoining property with a Chapel Street, Blackburn, address.

Those with longer memories may remember prior to News Limited, the 160 Whitehorse Road site was occupied by cordial manufacturer Cottee’s General Foods.
