Lend Lease announced as Managing Contractor for Ipswich Hospital expansion in Queensland

Lend Lease has been announced as the Managing Contractor by the Queensland Government to deliver the first stage of the $128.7 million Ipswich Hospital expansion.

The two stage project will vastly increase the capacity and services provided by Ipswich Hospital.

Murray Coleman, Managing Director of Lend Lease’s project management & construction business in Australia, said the Ipswich Hospital expansion provides another important addition to Lend Lease’s work in the social infrastructure sector in Australia.

“Our strategic positioning in the health sector continues to generate positive outcomes for the business and the Ipswich Hospital expansion is a welcome addition to our work pipeline,” Mr Coleman said.

“We are extremely pleased to continue our strong relationship with the Queensland Government to deliver another vital piece of health infrastructure. It’s particularly pleasing to see a project of this significance kick off in Queensland after such trying natural disasters.”

The project will comprise the addition of two levels to the existing Clinical Services Building (CSB), including an extension to the Emergency department (ED), refurbishment works to the existing CSB and ED, and refurbishment works to the Out Patients Building.

The Ipswich Hospital expansion will ensure health care services meet the demands of the Ipswich and Western corridor into the future, an area that is projected to continue to experience significant population growth. It is expected to commence in May 2011 with completion scheduled in the third quarter of 2013.

The project is expected to generate approximately 750 jobs at the peak of construction.

Lend Lease’s project management & construction business has a long history in delivering health care and hospital projects around the world. In Australia, Lend Lease is the Managing Contractor for the new $1.76 billion Gold Coast University Hospital in south east Queensland, the Managing Contractor for the $390 million redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital in Sydney and is part of the Children’s Health Partnership consortium delivering the $1 billion redevelopment of the new Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
