Law firm founder John Landerer lists Vaucluse mansion for $60 million-plus

The home includes a separately accessible function centre.

John Landerer, the founder of commercial law firm Landerer and Company has listed his Sydney family home with a price guide of more than $60 million.

Ganeden at 38A Wentworth Road, Vaucluse, is the most expensive residential property to be offered for public sale in Australia this year.

The seven-bedroom home includes a 20 car garage, three kitchens, two swimming pools, a home cinema, gym and separately accessible function centre.

It is next door to La Mer, the high-profile Guildford Bell designed mansion which James and Erika Packer sold to Chinese-Australian businessman Chau Chak Wing for $70 million in 2015 following a major refurbishment – and a divorce.

La Mer, like Ganeden, is a hillside holding with a second street frontage to Vaucluse Road, where contemporary structures have been built.

Both streets offer postcard views capturing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.

Ganeden occupies a 2400 square metre site – created in the mid-1990s when Mr Landerer acquired two homes (43 and 45 Vaucluse Road), to add to the 38A Wentworth Road component, which he bought in October, 1998.

Mr Landerer later appointed Stephen Gergely to design a new compound for the block. Late interior designer Frank Grill furnished Ganeden while Melbourne-based landscape architect Paul Bangay penned the garden.

Sotheby’s International Realty Sydney’s managing director, Michael Pallier, is marketing Ganeden via an expressions of interest campaign, with an unpublished closing date.

Last September, Mr Landerer was made chairman of Asian investment firm iProsperity Property Group (IPG).

At the same time, IHG paid about $200 million for Melbourne’s Pullman on the Park hotel in East Melbourne.

Two months ago, IHG listed another Melbourne hotel – the Novotel, in Glen Waverley, and an adjoining retail complex, Century City Walk Shopping Centre. These two assets are expected to sell for a total of about $150 million following a campaign being managed by CBRE and Savills.

Guneden offers these gun-barrel views to the Sydney CBD, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.
