HIA Welcomes Victorian Government’s Commitment to Fast Track Building Projects

The Government today announced it is undertaking a rolling audit of pending projects, as well as calling on industry to tell them about projects that are being unnecessarily delayed.

“Many of our members have spent too much time and money fighting minor objections in VCAT. It was time these were brought to an end,” said Robert Harding, Acting Victorian Executive Director.

Delays in building approvals erode housing affordability and are an unnecessary barrier to economic activity and jobs.

“Ensuring projects of all sizes are delivered quickly will help ease the housing shortages in our state and support growth in residential construction.  There have been numerous announcements that have promised planning reform, it is important that this one actually delivers,” said Robert Harding

“We are still waiting to see the previously announced 90,000 blocks of land that are to be fast-tracked, come on to market, but are hopeful that the Growth Areas Authority will ensure these are delivered on target,” Mr Harding said.
