Ex-Ford factory reborn as industrial estate
A chance to own a piece of motoring history has come up, with Pelligra Group beginning to replace the ex-Ford manufacturing plant in Campbellfield as a large-scale employment hub.
The 60 hectare ASSEMBLY project at 1727-1787 Sydney Road will be developed in four stages.
The first, affecting over 44ha, will make way for an industrial estate with lots from 2100 square metres to 10.29ha is now available for sale.
The business park will also contain about 1.3 kilometres of road frontage and signalised entry points.
Later stages will include 13 lots along Sydney and Barry roads.
Development manager Citinova is responsible for all development activities, sales and leasing.
An event marking the launch of the first subdivision was held Friday.
Next chapter for significant site
Adjacent to Upfield train station, the developer said the site, one of Melbourne’s most historically significant, is in the heart of the city’s northern growth corridor.
“The precinct is designed to support a diverse mix of industries including manufacturing, logistics and freight, technology and innovation, transport and warehousing and large format retail,” Pelligra managing director, Ross Pelligra, added.
“Positioned along Hume Highway and Barry Rd, ASSEMBLY offers direct access to the Western Ring Rd, Melbourne Airport and the Melbourne Market, placing the development at the centre of Victoria’s freight and logistics network,” according to the executive (continues below).
“Assembly is a meaningful investment, a rare opportunity and a legacy project – not only for the Pelligra Group and our project partners, but for the surrounding communities who will benefit for decades to come”.
Major transformation
Pelligra acquired the Campbellfield site in 2021.
Significant work has been completed from the completion of a retail pad site on the corner of Sydney and Barry roads, to key site enabling works including demolition, environmental remediation and bulk earthworks.
“This development represents an exciting new chapter for Campbellfield and for businesses across Melbourne’s north creating new opportunities for investment, employment and infrastructure that benefits our growing community,” Mayor of Hume City Council, Carly Moore, said.
State Member for Broadmeadows, Kathleen Matthews-Ward MP, added developments like ASSEMBLY were critical to supporting sustainable growth in one of Victoria’s fastest-growing regions.
“Melbourne’s north continues to be one of the fastest-growing regions in Victoria, and developments like ASSEMBLY are critical to supporting sustainable economic growth,” she said.
Campbellfield is about 15 kilometres from the CBD.
