Ennismore chooses Melbourne for maiden Australian Hyde hotel

The Russell Street hotel opened last August.

London-based Ennismore has leased a near new Melbourne CBD hotel for its maiden Australian Hyde.

Ark and Lead Global bought the hotel from Merricks Capital earlier this year.

The group has chosen 124-134 Russell Street – since being developed last August, known as Melbourne Place – with 191 keys over 15 levels.

Ark Capital Partners and Lead Global, backed by Pioneer Wealth, on behalf of a hospitality fund, are the landlords, paying Merricks Capital $150 million earlier this year.

Merricks seized control of the project in 2022 from Triple MMM Holdings but it had been previously controlled by Longriver.

Ennismore’s Hyde Hotels, which is New York based, took control on the weekend with an official launch scheduled later this year.

The deal comes nine months since we reported Accor leased a hotel within the Matchworks development in inner east Cremorne for Australia’s first Hoxton.

New chapter for new hotel

Penned by Kennedy Nolan, the Exhibition St hotel replaced the historic Melbourne Theosophical Society and two neighbouring shops.

A second Australian Hyde is set to open in Perth this year.

The brand also operates in Dubai, Johannesburg, Miami and London.

Elsewhere in Australia, Ennismore recently opened the 25Hours Hotel Sydney The Olympia, at Paddington.

It is also set to launch a Mondrian on the Gold Coast.
