Developers move on two sites created by level crossing removal
Two thin rectangle sites recently created from level crossing removals in Melbourne’s south east are set to be developed.
In Murrumbeena, Make Ventures was last week approved to replace a 2400 square metre Neerim Road tract, at the top of the Murrumbeena Village retail strip, with an eight level build to sell apartment tower (artist’s impression, top).
Also near the train station, the ground will contain 1290 sqm of retail – extending the popular shopping precinct.
The balance of the Fieldworks penned building will include 110 dwellings.
Planning minister Sonya Kilkenny granted a permit for both the land rezoning and building.
Cedar Woods in Noble Park
Meanwhile, Cedar Woods will develop a five level social housing complex on a 2211 sqm plot created out of a level crossing removal near Noble Park station.
Douglas Apartments at 51A Douglas Street, Noble Park, will contain 97 apartments and six ground floor shops.
The state and federal government will fund the project 50:50 for HousingFirst, which will be given the property and manage it.

The bulk of the Noble Park apartments (61) will spread c53 sqm with one bedroom.
The complex will also contain 49 resident-only car parks.
Occupiers will be those “in most need for housing” a HousingFirst spokesperson said – with selections to come from the Victorian Housing Register’s Priority Access group – including those escaping family violence and with a disability or significant support need.
Rent won’t be charged beyond 30 per cent of the gross housing income.
It also won’t amount to more than 75pc of the market rate.
Completion is scheduled next year.
