Coogi factory sold

A syndicate of private investors said to include former Collingwood footballer Damian Monkhorst is paying c$12.5 million for Richmond’s former Coogi Knitwear factory.

The deal for 49 – 65 Coppin Street was struck off-market.

Spreading 6000 square metres, it also fronts Abinger and Lord streets.

The parcel came permit-ready for a 14,000 square metre commercial office and showroom complex.

Belgrave Group was the vendor; it paid Coogi Knitwear about $6m in 1999, sources say.

That builder is also replacing the former Strathfield Car Radio site on Punt Road, one of many projects it is undertaking in Melbourne’s inner east.

The clothing manufacturer meanwhile relocated to the former Yarra Falls Knitting Mills in Abbotsford.

It later suffered financial difficulties, so sold that site to Computershare which occupies it as its headquarters.
