Restaurateur Max Tsang rents within South Melbourne’s Clarendon Centre
Max Tsang (pictured, right), the operator of St Kilda’s popular Cantonese fare and yum cha restaurant, Mahjong, is expanding his restaurant empire to nearby South Melbourne.
Mr Tsang has leased a 39 square metre space, G08, within the Clarendon Centre, for a hospitality venture, Miss China.
Clarendon Property Group acquired the South Melbourne site which made way for the Clarendon Centre, from Coles, in 1999.
It redeveloped the 265 Clarendon Street complex between 2006 and 2007.
The multi-level mixed use investment includes 3500 square metres of retail configured with a Coles supermarket and 23 speciality stores. It also provides 3500 sqm of office space – part of which is leased to Southern Cross Broadcasting – the owner of Fox FM and Triple M – and employs about 350 people.
Clarendon Centre accommodates 230 underground car parks.
Clarendon Property Group was represented by Fitzroys agent James Lockwood who described the South Melbourne strip as one of the city’s best performing.
Mr Lockwood has also recently committed a doctor and practice manager to occupy a space, G19, within Clarendon Centre. Up to six practitioners will be permitted to be based at that premises.
Elsewhere in Victoria, Clarendon Property Group owns Greenvale Shopping Centre, which it acquired in 2003, and is expanding at present with a medical centre, Aldi supermarket, speciality shops and car parking. It also controls Swan Hill Shopping Centre.
Clarendon Property Group owns four shopping centres in Cairns, too.
