Central City Boundaries Set to Expand Beyond Traditional Hoddle Grid: Melbourne’s New Planning Policy

City boundaries would be redrawn to also allow major skyscrapers in Carlton and the Domain area of St Kilda Road (and the “Kingsway” precinct connecting Domain to the CBD. Previously the minister has identified land around the Richmond train station as ripe for redevelopment.

The planning policy, according to the Herald Sun, may also incorporate expanding the underground loop. It would also include a streamlined planning process to speed up and encourage building.

The CBD area will expand from about 180 hectares, to 900.
