The Clovelly Hotel in Sydney’s south-east has been sold by Solotel, a company controlled by celebrity chef Matt Moran and businessman Bruce Solomon.

Solotel paid a reported $30 million in late 2016 for the leasehold of the pub known locally as the Cloey (pictured top and left).

It is reported by Australian Hotelier this week to be selling to the Tilley and Wills Group, which is controlled by Nick Wills.

“Solotel have made a strategic decision to rebalance our portfolio for future growth and invest in our freehold venues. This means we are unfortunately saying goodbye to the Cloey locals, who were a pleasure to serve over the past two years,” a representative for Mr Solomon told the magazine which first mooted the sale in July.

The freehold for the pub was sold by Iris Capital, directed by Sam Arnaout, for $34 million last year to a private investor.
