Bill McHarg Enyoying Sabatical, No Chance of Returning to Agency
The executive who quit his Collins Street job to drive a truck around former Prime Minister John Howard’s Bennelong electorate in the weeks before the last election crusading for environmental change, will take the rest of the year off, and think about what he doesn’t want to do for work.
Ex-Colliers International chairman Bill McHarg says 2008 will be a year of reflection and that he is enjoying the freedom that has come from a career sabbatical.
The agent resigned from his corporate gig at Colliers International late last year under controversial circumstances, linked to him paying for full paid ads to run in Sydney newspapers, encouraging residents to “vote planet first, and Howard last”.
It has since been speculated rivals CB Richard Ellis, Jones Lang LaSalle and Knight Frank offered him jobs immediately after November’s sudden departure.
Mr McHarg, holidaying on the New South Wales coast, told Capital Gain he didn’t and doesn’t want to get back into agency, nor does he want to be an employee again.
Rather, he added, the plan is tocontinue working with his two passions: property and the environment.
