Zero Emissions Building Brainstormed For Richmond Train Station, Melbourne
The 19-storey building, dubbed the Zero Building, is not on the horizon to be developed any time soon – but is proof, according to GHD architectural director Paul Thatcher, that a building can produce all its own energy on site. In particular, the building would generate its own energy through massive solar panels and wind turbines on its roof.
GHD estimates it would cost about $165 million to develop the building, or about 20 per cent more than a conventional office building of the same size.
Executive director of the Green Building Council David Craven said the additional cost to a developer could be offset by a carbon tax system, if one were to come in place.
