Ex-Collingwood footballer lists “one of the Mornington Peninsula’s finest holdings” for $5.5m+

Former Collingwood ruckman turned property developer Vaughan Ellis, with his wife, Sue (pictured), are selling their hilltop Red Hill estate, Maison de la Mer, which they built “sparing no expense” 10 years ago.

Described as one of the Mornington Peninsula’s finest holdings, the six acre property at 60 Sheehans Road is expected to sell for between $5.5 million and $5.8 million.

A triple-storey French Provincial style chateau, opulently appointed and spanning more than 100 square, sits at one of the block’s highest points, and contains five bedrooms, a cinema, and numerous living and dining areas (including a casual meals area with a grand conservatory window).

Designed so that the majority of rooms overlook landscaped gardens and Port Phillip Bay, Maison de la Mer also includes a self-contained guest house, infinity-edged saltwater swimming pool and spa bath.

Three separated horse paddocks, farming infrastructure – including a barn capable of parking six cars – and bore irrigated dams, are also on the property.

Mr Vaughan said that care of Peninsula Link (a motorway which opened in 2013), the Melbourne Cricket Ground, near the CBD, is about an hour away.

The ruckman, who played 19 games with Collingwood between 1965 and 1969, also enjoyed a VFL career with Frankston and Dandenong before focusing full-time on property development.

Sotheby International Realty Peninsula’s Rob Curtain and Celeste Wright are representing the Vaughans who will relocate to a property elsewhere in the area capable of larger-scale cattle farming.
