Australia’s Population Boom Continues, We’re Now at 22.5 Million

AUSTRALIAN Bureau of Statistics show the nation’s population surged 1.4 per cent last year to 22.5 million.

Victoria led the population surge recruiting 75,000 new residents in the way of immigration, more babies and a net increase from other states. The state now has 5.6 million people.

Mining states Western Australia (which gained 67,400 residents) and Queensland (66,500) were the next fastest growing states.

Slight improvements fail to dent NSW rental crisis

Sydney recorded a slight improvement of 0.2 percent in June driven largely by a half a percent improvement in rental vacancies in the inner suburbs.

However in outer Sydney the outlook remains poor with only marginal increases in the number of vacancies in the middle and outer suburbs of the city.

Data showing that population growth in the Richmond-Tweed region has been faster than any other part of NSW in the past two years is evidence that Australians are prepared to move in search of a better lifestyle according to the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW). It also accords with the latest property prices released by the Institute, which show house prices in the area grew 11% in the last quarter – among the highest of any regional location.
