Bendigo Art Gallery to be Expanded Again

THE popular Bendigo Art Gallery (part of interior pictured, right) is to expand, again, to cater for two new gallery spaces, a bigger entrance and new storage and loading facilities.

The $7.55 million project will be funded by a $3.8 million state government contribution, a $3.3 million council contribution and a $450,000 philanthropic offering.

City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Rod Fyffe said the expansion is part of councils View Street Arts Precinct Master Plan.

Bendigo Car Park Compound Approved

IT’s the kind of development you’d expect to see approved in King Street, in the city.

But instead, in downtown Bendigo, plans are afoot to build a multi-level, 420-bay car park and office building at one of the city’s busier intersections.

The City of Greater Bendigo council this week approved a $15 million redevelopment of what is currently an open-air car park bound by Edward, Queen and King streets.

The redevelopment will include a 1500 square metre office, pre-committed to government agency State Trustees, which also has naming rights.

Central Bendigo Buildings Relisted For Sale

TWO central Bendigo buildings that previously accommodated notable local businesses, have hit the market as development sites, again.

The City of Greater Bendigo has relisted for sale the former Bendigo Advertiser building, in Pall Mall, and the adjoining St Vincent De Paul building, in Hargreaves Street.

It’s hoped a new purchaser may redevelop the combined 2000 square metre site into a mixed use complex with a hotel, offices, and retail space including a restaurant and bar.
