Pink Palace to be replaced

Brothel Pink Palace has closed after more than 30 years.

The double-storey South Melbourne building it occupied (pictured, top) at 8-16 Palmerston Crescent sold to Crema Group last year for about $15 million.

It is now earmarked for an 18-storey mixed-use but predominantly residential complex with rooftop and bar.

Construction over the 908 square metre block is expected to start next year.

Elsewhere in South Melbourne, the Gladstone Street site occupied by Pleasuredome sold about six months before Pink Palace to Sydney investors.

In November, 2016, Auyin Developments paid $12.7m for the former Daily Planet in Elsternwick.

Another suburban brothel, the Whispers Playhouse in Hoppers Crossing, also traded that month, as an investment.

About two years ago, adult industry entrepreneur Joseph Sabota listed co-owned properties Dendy Adult Cinema and Club X in the city’s Coverlid Place.

Strip club Showgirls at 46 King St also traded that year, to Rialto’s owners.

In 2010, former sauna Steamworks was acquired by the Coptic Orthodox Church which has since replaced it with Eporo Tower – a 43-level apartment complex and house of worship.

The Eporo Tower recently replaced Steamworks, which closed in 2008.
