THE People's Republic of China is expected to take on New Zealand actor Russell Crowe, in bidding for a $15 million Sydney mansion, once used by the French government as a consulate. The Victoria Road estate, Le Manoir, will be auctioned this evening at an invitation-only event in which prospective buyers have to make a refundable $50,000 deposit, just to make a bid. The double-storey mansion includes six bedrooms, two studies, harbour and ocean views, and sits on a block of over 4,000 square metres. Raine & Horne Double Bay is marketing the mansion, which according to the AFR also includes a tennis court, swimming pool, vegetable garden and chicken coup. Last month, it was revealed the Chinese government paid about $7 million for an 80-square Toorak mansion, which it is expected will be used for education purposes.
