New Retail Laneway Planned For Melbourne’s Southern Cross Hotel Site

The bluestone paved pedestrian strip  – the latest in a string to open in the CBD over recent years – will include about 25 new retail outlets, 12 of which are still available for lease, according to Fitzroys agency executive Andrew Hewett. The space is believed to be leasing for an average of about $1,000 per square metre, per annum, but this could not be confirmed.

Melbourne’s first international 5-star hotel, the Southern Cross operated from 1962 until 1995, and was demolished in 2002.

Brookfield Multiplex has built two new office buildings totalling 120,000 square metres, in the hotels place.
