Yarra Valley retreat for sale

Christina Aguilera has been there.

So have comedian Magda Szubanksi and sportsman Stuart MacGill.

Rumour has it Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz booked a table when they were last in town but cancelled when they realised it didn’t have a helicopter landing pad.

But now Healesville’s Mt Rael Retreat is for sale.

The estate occupies 11.5 acres near the town centre, between about 70 Yarra Valley wineries, the Healesville Sanctuary and the Tarrawarra Estate Art Gallery – Australia’s largest contemporary art collection donated by philanthropists Marc and Eva Besen.

Vendors Sean Lee and John Knoll sold three successful Melbourne restaurants to buy it, in about 2003

An extensive renovation was then undertaken as was a menu upgrade.

Mt Rael includes a 120-seat restaurant and six accommodation suites.

It will be sold permit-ready for another 30 rooms, corporate meeting and seminar spaces.

Gross Waddell’s Michael Spektor is marketing the property which is expected to sell for $2.4-$2.6 million.
