IKEA to open at Campbellfield’s Pipeworks Market

Victorian planning minister Justin Madden has rezoned Campbellfield’s Pipeworks Market and approved a permit paving the way for site owner, Scandinavian furniture giant IKEA, to open a store there.

The proposed 41,000 square metre outlet would be the group’s biggest in Australia.

In Melbourne, the retailer trades from Victoria Gardens in Richmond and is building another store at Springvale.

In the 1990s it had three local outlets including in Moorabbin, not far from the one it is constructing (story continues below).

Campbellfield IKEA is earmarked to open at 400 Mahoneys Road by mid-2012, it said.
