Hume City Council Creates Comprehensive Sunbury Database

Matched with pictures, it shows the evolution of Sunbury which now houses 35,000 residents, compared to 5000 in 1971.

The Sunbury precinct will continue to boom after a decision by the state government last August to extend Sunbury’s Urban Growth Boundary west to the Calder Freeway, north along Lancefield Road, east along Sunbury Road and south along Vineyard Road.

Once fully developed, Sunbury is expected to merge with the Diggers Rest community.

Hume researchers spent six months recording council archives, and speaking to residents, property and business owners to put the database together. Council plans to update the report twice annually, like CityScope.
