But Caydon, which purchased the property before a scheduled auction, is expected to go back to the drawing board, and propose apartments, sources say.
Given its proximity to Swinburne University, the site could make way for a student accommodation focussed complex. But given its immediacy to some of Hawthorn’s best streets, the site could also find favour with high-end apartment buyers, namely empty nesters wanting to downgrade from large family homes in the area, and retire with a park view.
A Caydon representative was unavailable when contacted by The Age.
Earlier this month, Caydon unveiled plans to build Richmond’s tallest office building, on the Viva Plastics warehouse site, at the corner of Harcourt Parade and Cremorne Street, abutting the onramp between Punt Road and the Monash Freeway, and near the famous Nylex sign.
