Bendigo Art Gallery to be Expanded Again

St Kilda-based architect Fender Katsalidis, which has designed previous extensions to the 15-year old gallery, was appointed for the latest annex.

“We are excited to have lodged the planning application for this important project,” Cr Fyffe said.  “Once all planning approvals are in place we expect to commence construction work in mid-2012”.

“Since 1996, Bendigo Art Gallery has undergone four carefully staged redevelopments to enhance its look and feel and this project will tie together the previous modifications and incorporate additional space for the Gallery to change and grow.

“The gallery is currently utilising off-site storage facilities in Melbourne to house its collection and out-of-exhibition artworks. This is definitely not an ideal solution and we are looking forward to the new storage spaces solving this problem and saving us unnecessary costs.

“Bendigo Art Gallery’s reputation as Australia’s finest regional gallery continues to grow through exclusive exhibitions such as the current White Wedding Dress exhibition which is attracting people from throughout Victoria and beyond to Bendigo.
