Avon Court
FORMER Richmond Football Club president Clinton Casey has sold his Avon Court mansion, in Hawthorn, for more than $21 million - setting a new price record for Melbourne.

The Shakespeare Grove mansion included a private cinema, gymnasium, ballroom, wine cellar, two pools and seven kitchens.

The sale comes in the same month Toorak mansion Meiegunyah sold for a speculated $20 million, smashing the record price of a home in Melbourne (until then held by Malvern's Stonington mansion, at $18 million).

Mr Casey is reported to have paid $5.7 million for Avon Court in 2003, spending a further $9 million on refurbishment.

There is still some doubt on the price - speculated at being anything from $21 million to $25 million. Prestige sales can sometimes include elaborate furniture packages, including art, which add substantially to the cost.

All eyes turn now to the Toorak home of businessman Graham Smorgon, which hit the market with an anticipated sale price of $16 million - like Avon Court.
