AUSTRALIAN renters risk being kicked out of their homes, if their landlord owners default on home loans.
Tenants Union of Victoria spokesman Toby Archer described renters as "the forgotten victims" of rising incidences of mortgage stress, and rising interest rates.
Mr Archer is appealing for the ALP State government to extend its notice time for tenants to vacate from 28 days, to 90.
"They are caught in the crossfire when a landlord defaults either because thehy've lost their job or entered the property market and taken too much on," he said in the Herald Sun.
That paper also reported a high 90,000 first home buyers are suffering mortgage stress (where too much of their household income goes on mortgage repayments) because interest rates have risen faster than expected.
