Victoria's oldest motel, the Oakleigh Motel, is for sale and expected to fetch up to $4.4 million as an investment or development site.
Built in 1956 on the site of the Mulgrave Arms Hotel, and before that Cobb & Co horse stables, The Oak was designed by Americans.
Untouched externally, and heritage protected, The Oak was used during the 1956 Olympic Games as a turning point for the marathon, being exactly 20 kilometres from the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Gross Waddell selling agent Andrew Waddell expects the 5018 sq m site to arouse interest from hotel operators, investors or developers. The site is close to Monash University and its 43 rooms could be converted into student accommodation.
