If you live in Port Melbourne, or ever strolled along Beach Street and thought you saw the end of the Sandridge Hotel you are mistaken.
The 150-year old hotel was removed late last year, as part of redevelopment plans which will see the site, on the corner of Stokes Street, become a 7-level luxury apartment building.
A restored Sandridge Hotel facade will be reinstated upon completion of the development, but apartments will be in place of the bars, tables and stage.
Formerly known as the Freemasons Tavern, the property was one of the first hotels in Port Melbourne and accommodated guests in 20 rooms.
The new apartment redevelopment will include just 10 apartments, each with views of the water.
Bridgewater International selling agent Anthony Chiminello says all of the apartments have sold except a 330 square metre sub penthouse, for sale privately at $5.95 million.
Mr Chiminello says the whole-floor apartment measures 330 square metres and includes five balconies and column free oversized living areas with views of Port Phillip Bay.
He said buyers in the Port Melbourne project were sick of the “dogbox” size apartments on offer, and wanted something with light, air, space, storage and good security.
