DEVELOPER preparedness to construct property without a tenant pre-commitment is spilling into the retail sector, with middleweight developer Omni Property Group this week announcing plans to speculatively develop a bulky goods showroom and gymnasium in Carnegie.

The site at 1030 Dandenong Road, now occupied by a B-grade office building and a large Australian Posters billboard, will be developed into a 2000 sq m double-story building, with parking for 44 cars.

Omni Property Group is a joint-venture partner in the development of freehold sites previously owned and occupied by Australia Posters advertising.

Australian Posters acquired most of the high-exposure sites as a result of council road-widening projects over the past 30 years.
