Ill health has stopped Brighton identities Keith Allan and Rex Lowe from building their dream home at Mount Macedon.

The well known antique dealers, dubbed the “Boys from Bay Street” in a book about them, “The Boys of The Mount” purchased the 1.24 acre Nandi estate on Mount Macedon Road three years ago. They obtained a permit to build a new house using the existing shop front as an antique store, before ill health dictated a change in direction. The property is now being sold.

Now ‘Mount Macedon Village’ identities, Keith and Allan spent more than 30 years renovating and rebuilding landmark homes, and gardens on the mountain. Before moving to Nandi, the boys rebuilt the historic Tanglewood a little further down Mount Macedon Road.

Nandi was built in 1876 by a Tasmanian sawmiller, but renowned Australian artist Arnold Shaw has also called it home. The 8-bedroom homestead has also had a life as a guest house, with tea rooms added to a renovation in the early 1970s, to take advantage of the Macedon Ranges backdrop.

The property is being sold by Ray White Hampton director Robert Bowman. It is expected to fetch more than $800,000 at auction on Sunday March 18th at 12 noon.
