Lend Lease is the latest developer to announce plans for a new residential tower in Docklands, giving prospective buyers another apartment to add to their shopping list next year.
The Montage tower, which will be developed opposite Docklands Park on the as-yet unbuilt Geographe Street, will include 77 apartments over 9 levels, and eight 3-level terraces.
Lend Lease general manager – Victoria, Maurice Cococcia says the project is on schedule to open in mid 2009.
The Montage is the third new residential project to be announced recently in the once-troubled Docklands precinct.
MAB Corporation recently confirmed it would develop a mixed use residential project on the northern banks of Victoria Harbour – appointing boutique architect Plus Architecture to design it. Plus is also also developing the Tooronga Village site in Hawthorn and the Era project in Richmond.
Iraqi-born London-based designer Zaha Hadid also has her eyes on Docklands.
Hadid, 57, was the first woman to win architecture’s most prestigious award, the Pritzker prize, in 2004. She will oversee a $1.5 billion office, residential and retail development set for a massive Collins Street Collins Street, on either side of the Bunjil statue.
Local agents say a wave of office buildings in Docklands has helped turn the apartment market around. As little as three years ago Docklands investors found their apartments unlettable – causing many to sell, losing tens of thousands of dollars on the prices they originally paid.
