LinksLiving Says it Won't Sell Geelong Golf Course

Golf course-based residential developer LinksLiving has put to rest speculation it will sell its 45-hectare Geelong Golf Course, despite the site multiplying in value by more than 10 times since the company bought it in 2003.

LinksLiving, co-directed by controversial former Richmond Football Club president Clinton Casey, told Capital Gain it still intended to lodge plans for the site, which would include 200 townhouses and 150 retire-ment villages built around a nine-hole golf course.

LinksLiving paid $1.85 mil-lion for the Ballarat Road golf course - Victoria's oldest - in 2003, controversially closing it down the next year while brain-storming a new future for the site.

The course is speculated to be worth between $20 million and $25 million, following a resi-dential rezoning in March and broad approval for a medium-density housing estate.

One developer thrown into the mix as a potential buyer is Costa Property Group, headed by Geelong local hero Frank Costa, but this could not be confirmed. Sources say Mr Costa is not in the habit of buying sites with strict development conditions, such as those imposed by the city council.

Mr Casey is involved in a potentially costly legal dispute with former Richmond footballer Ben Holland for up to $530,000 in lost investment opportunities, allegedly promised to comp-lement Holland's salary while he played for the Tigers.
