Property developer and former Olympian Peter Gillon looks set to start redevelopment of the former Hampton Rehabilitation Hospital on Beach Road, three years after he negotiated with the State Government to buy the prominent site.
A joint venture between Mr Gillon, who rowed for Australia at the Rome and Tokyo Olympics, and the Abacus Property Group says it expects to start building its Edgecliff on the Beach residential development next year.
The project will include a 4-level, 70-unit apartment building, and six 4-level townhouses with frontage to Orlando Street. The development will offer postcard views over Port Phillip Bay and the CBD.
The developers paid the State Government $13 million for the Hampton hospital in 2005, three years after the Government closed the site.
