The founders of Melbourne’s Groove Train restaurant chain will open a high end bistro at the western end of the CBD.
Restaurateurs Rocky Veneziano and business partner John Cetiner have leased 303 square metres on the ground floor of the super-green 500 Collins Street building, opposite the Rialto. The duo plan to open the Tom Collins bistro and restaurant in the space.
More than 1,050 square metres of retail leases have been signed at 500 Collins Street since the start of the year. Other tenants to call the building home include the Obentos Japanese restaurant, chocolate retailer Cacao, Flight Centre, a florist, hair dresser, shoe repairer and dry cleaner.
CB Richard Ellis Max Cookes, who negotiated the leases, expects Tom Collins to be a success, saying there is very little fine dining restaurants in the precinct – which is opposite the agency’s city headquarters.
The 500 Collins Street office building is Australia’s first tenanted high-rise CBD office refurbishment to achieve the Green Building Council of Australia’s five star Green Star rating. It is owned by Bermuda-registered company the Kador Group, and managed by private Melbourne investors.
