Surgeon Angus Hamer – and nephew of prominent former State Liberal leader Sir Rupert Hamer - is selling a 3-hectare estate in Eltham South, after 25 years.
Morrison Kleeman associate director Rocco Montanaro is expecting about $1.4 million to $1.54 million for the property at 5 Yarra Braes Rd, which includes a pool, spa, horse stables and a professional size dressage yard, or horse ménage.
The home itself includes an enormous mud brick wing with its own library, wine cellar, mezzanine floor study and lounge room with 100-year old bridge timber and jarra floors.
Angus and his wife Kay are moving to a home in Templestowe, on a relatively smaller 0.4 hectare block. Kay says it will be devastating to leave the house but that she will always have memories of the family growing up with horses in the backyard, digging tunnels and in general enjoying a bush setting life, close to the CBD.
Earlier this month, Premier John Brumby announced a $128.5 million redevelopment of Hamer Hall, between the Melbourne Arts Centre spire and the Yarra River.
Hamer Hall was the name given to the former Victorian Concert Hall from 2004, and named in honour of Sir Hamer, one of the longest serving Victorian Premiers, respected for his contribution to the arts and environment.
Sir Hamer died in his sleep aged 87 in 2004 at his home in Kew.
