Controversial Flemington House Put to the Market For Sale

The house at the centre of widespread community outrage three years ago has been quietly put on the market.

The 1920s terrace at 137 Kent Street in Flemington gained notoriety in 2005 when it was chosen by the Victorian Government as the home for convicted pedophile Brian Keith Jones, otherwise known as Mr Baldy, who had just finished his second stint in jail.

Jones is believed to have lived at Kent Street for just two nights before he was exposed by the community, and relocated to a home on the grounds of Ararat Prison, in south-west Victoria.

How Corrections Victoria arrived at its decision to move Jones to Flemington became the subject of an inquiry. It was revealed that the deputy minister of corrections at the time, Paul Delphine, did not know the house was opposite a bus stop used by children, was next to a home with two primary-school aged children, and was within walking distance to schools, until he read it in the media.

Avion Properties selling agent Morgan Jolly, who was unavailable for comment, is quoting more than $380,000 for the two-bedroom Flemington terrace, which is up for sale privately.
