Construction could start as early as next year on the $250-million Ascot Chase community in Ascot Vale, about seven kilometres north-west of Melbourne.
The Moonee Valley Council says remediation works for the first stage of the site are progressing, and expects works to begin shortly on lowering Walter Street Reserve, to assist with managing floodwaters upstream from the Maribyrnong River.
The first stage of the project, worth almost $70 million, will include 397 two-storey townhouses built on the south-west corner of the site, with frontage to Doncaster Street.
B&B and Urbex paid listed chemicals manufacturer Orica $35 million for its 17-hectare Ascot Vale research centre in 2003.
