Busy Cox Plate Day For Colin Little

It will be a busy Cox Plate day for prominent horse trainer Colin Little later this month.

While he will be at Moonee Valley, hoping his champion racehorse El Segundo can come “El Primo” at the famous race, Hodges Real Estate will auction his former family home at 1 Merville Avenue, Malvern East.

Little bought the clinker brick house in the late 1980s, from winnings he had with race horse Ranee’s Cottage. He later gave that name to the property.

The home features three bedrooms, a formal and informal living area, studio with separate kitchen, lock-up garage and sits on a 865 square metre block. It is wedged between the East Malvern and Carnegie train stations in a pocket known for its leafy streets and Federation homes.

About ten years ago Little took up residence at the Lord Lodge racing stables at the Caulfield Racecourse where he has trained horses such as Blutigeroo, and El Segundo. Merville Avenue has since been used as a prestige residential investment property.

Selling agent Michelle Shelton of Hodges South Yarra is selling the property with Andrew Boyce. She expects the home to fetch more than $800,000 when it goes to auction at 11am on Cox Plate day, October 27.

“El Segundo was beaten by an inch at the Cox Plate last year,” Mr Little told Private Property. “I’ll be hoping it goes a couple of inches better this year.”
