Bruce Mathieson to Retain Brighton Mansion

Pokie king Bruce Mathieson has withdrawn his Brighton mansion from the market. The five-bedroom property in Sandown Street on Brighton's Golden Mile was mysteriously whisked off industry websites last month, sparking speculation that the house - on the market for more than $9 million 12 months ago and later reduced to $7.5 million - had actually been sold.

"Not so," says Buxton Brighton director Brian Devlin, who was marketing the property. "They have decided to keep it instead. I think the family was pretty pleased with that decision because it is a magnificent house, and one that would be very hard to replace."

The property's price was dropped in the second half of last year, after two bigger Brighton mansions (39 Seacombe Grove and Kinane) were also put on the market, eventually selling for just over $11 million each.

The most expensive Brighton home on the market at present belongs to former JB Hi-Fi owner Richard Bouris and wife Alison. The property at 86 The Esplanade is expected to sell for more than $10 million.
