One of Victoria’s most successful bookmakers – and possibly the worst singer ever to tackle Australia’s national anthem at a sporting event - Simon Beasley, is believed to have quietly purchased a luxury penthouse in South Yarra’s ultra ritzy Domain Road.
Mr Beasley, who prior to becoming a bookie had a hugely successful VFL career as a full-forward for the Footscray Football Club, is speculated to have paid more than $4 million for an apartment, near local drinking and dining institution, The Botanical.
The boutique apartment complex was developed by Sam Beck, the son of Max Beck of Becton development fame.
Kay & Burton and Marshall White sold Simon and wife Mary Beasley’s Malvern home in Moorakyne Avenue late last year, for an undisclosed price speculated to be around $3.5 million.
Only a couple of weeks before that sale, Mr Beasley performed the Australian national anthem for charity at the running of the Sandown Classic at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne’s outer south east.
For the honour, the Melbourne Racing Club donated $5000 to Beasley’s nominated charity – the Trevor Barker Foundation – part of a support network linked to children’s cancer charity Challenge.
Mr Beasley’s bookmaking business takes bets on most sports including American Football, Aussie Rules, cricket, golf and rugby league. He is most remembered however for being a full-forward with the Footscray Football Club from 1982 to 1989.
