In a move sure to excite Fountain Lakes foxy morons Kath & Kim, the City of Casey has launched its $300 million vision for its Main Street retail and mixed use development, which marries into the Fountain Gate Shopping Centre in Narre Warren, about 42 kilometres south-east of the CBD.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Janet Halsall said the development, which will be tendered, will be one of the largest commercial redevelopments outside of the CBD, and will be built on 5.1 hectares of land adjacent to the massive shopping centre.
“The site has priority development zoning which permits up to 25,000 square metres of retail floor space to be developed,” said Ms Halsall. “The large shopping area will be complemented by the construction of a modern and architecturally striking building that will include a new municipal office, library, multi-function arts centre and associated car parking.”
A further 10,000 square metre commercial office building is also part of the master plan.
Project manager Glenn Lamont of MacroPlan Australia said the tender provides a unique opportunity for Australia’s major developers to build, lease and manage “one of the most significant retail and community projects outside Melbourne’s CBD.”
“The City of Casey is already Victoria’s largest municipality with a population of approximately 240,000 residents. Casey is recognised in the Victorian Government’s Melbourne 2030 strategy, future population growth.”
