Woollam Constructions has been appointed to undertake the $11 million redevelopment of Southern Cross Care's Aged Care Facility at Tweed Heads South in northern New South Wales.

The construction project will deliver more than 6,000 sq m of new industry-leading aged care facilities to the Tweed Heads South community.

Stage One of the redevelopment project is now underway and will take approximately one year to complete. Stage Two will take another 30 weeks to complete and will commence after patients are transferred into the new Stage One facilities. As well as the new buildings, the redevelopment project also includes car parking and landscaping.

Mick Cadzow, Woollam Constructions Ballina Manager, said the company was delighted to be involved in a project that will deliver such high quality facilities and benefits to the Tweed Heads South community.

"We already have strong ties in the Northern Rivers health care sector through recent projects at the Crowley Village Ballina and Maranoa Alstonville aged care facilities," he said.

"These privately managed aged care facilities, combined with completed and ongoing works at the Lismore, Murwillumbah, Ballina, Casino and Tweed Heads public hospitals, have enabled us to develop a strong association with and understanding of the local heath care sector and we are looking forward to continuing to grow that relationship through this new Tweed Heads South project."

Mr Cadzow said specialist knowledge and experience is required when constructing in and around health care facilities.

"Our past experience in the field stands us in good stead to ensure all works are carried out with minimal disruption to staff, patients and the provision of normal services," he said.

"This is exactly what we will be striving to do at Southern Cross Care's Aged Care Facility at Tweed Heads South as we work to deliver new first-class facilities for the benefit of the local community."

Woollam Constructions is an award winning company with a history and reputation for quality building dating back to its origins in Brisbane in 1884.   The company now has offices in Brisbane, Rockhampton, Mackay and Ballina and has experience in a wide variety of building sectors, including health care, hotels, schools, office, administration, residential, retail and industrial projects.
